April 03,2024 Stories

Continuously expand your horizons, and be dare to explore unknown fields, Viel spaß. — YI Cheng

For the "Teachers' Remarks III" interview series, we invited faculty members from various divisions of the School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen. These are individuals with outstanding achievements and rich experiences in the music field, who not only engage in performance and guidance as their professional work but also serve as role models for students through their personal charm and musical talent. In the "Teachers' Remarks III" interview series, students will take on the role of interviewers, engaging in in-depth conversations with our faculties. Through their heartfelt words and wisdom, we hope to provide more enlightenment and guidance to the students, helping them navigate the vast ocean of music to find their own direction and goals.

In this rapidly evolving era filled with endless possibilities, each of us should have a thirst for knowledge, effortlessly broaden our horizons, and dare to explore the unknown. Expanding our horizons means stepping out of our conventional mind-frame and seeing the world from a fresh perspective. Whether through reading a variety of books, experiencing different cultures, or learning from others through conversations, we can constantly push the boundaries of our understanding, uncovering more excitement and possibilities. Exploring the unknown requires the courage to challenge ourselves and step out of our comfort zones. Though the unknown often comes with risks and uncertainties, it is the area that holds opportunities and potential. Take that step to learn about new things, explore new fields, and pursue your dreams. Maintain a strong belief, overcome challenges, and create a remarkable life for yourself!

In this issue, we invited YI Cheng, Assistant Professor (Teaching) of Strings, Wind, Brass and Percussion at the School of Music, CUHK-Shenzhen. Prof. YI Cheng will share his insights on "Upon entering the campus, how should young people set sail on their vibrant university life, and what kind of responsibilities and roles will they carry?" Prof. YI will also elaborate on more specific questions like "What are the most effective ways to practice a new piece of music? and How a clarinet student can achieve a good tone?" More excitingly, he will perform on the clarinet and share his unique experiences in interpreting Chinese works with Western musical instruments. Join us in Prof. YI Cheng's interview to explore the vast world of clarinet music and listen to his unique insights in this field!
