Biography

Paul Luxenberg, a faculty member at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, continues to push the boundaries of the professional classical tuba player experience.

Whether performing the John Williams tuba concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic to a sold-out crowd at the Hong Kong Cultural Center where he proposed to his wife on stage (yes….she said yes, and they are happily married with their son) to performing a solo concert of all Bach with tuba and organ to a sold-out audience at the Shenzhen Concert Hall, to recording an award-winning Wagner Ring Cycle with his beloved HKPhil, one could say Paul has been blessed with more amazing life experiences than he deserves.

While a student in New York City at the world-famous Juilliard School, Paul continued his musical journey which began in his birthplace of California.

Before finishing his Master's degree at Juilliard (which he still managed to complete) and after winning the Principal Tuba position with the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, he decided to embark on an adventure that began in Shanghai and still continues in Hong Kong SAR, where he has held the position of Principal Tuba player of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001.

Besides his thousands of performance credits in iconic concert halls throughout the world, he also continues to inspire musicians through his commitment to education.

He is a faculty at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Baptist University of Hong Kong.
